Game Play

Uniforms are required to play.

A uniform consists of a reversible Springfield Soccer Association jersey: Home Team is always Blue. Away Team is always White. Also required:  black shorts, and black socks. Shin guards are required to play and must be worn beneath the socks.  Soccer cleats are recommended but not required. Cleats for any other sport including but not limited to football or baseball are not permitted. Any sporting goods store can help you pick out legal soccer cleats.  Players may not wear jewelry (including watches or earrings) or hard plastic hair pieces at any time.

In cold weather

Players are permitted to wear knit hats. Players are permitted to wear sweat pants under their shorts. Players are not permitted to wear jeans or cut-offs. Sweatshirts are to be worn under the jersey. No jackets or coats or anything with buttons or zippers are permitted. Hoodies are permitted provided the hood is tucked into the jersey. Gloves are permitted at any time for any player. The goalkeeper must follow these rules with the exception of the jersey requirement as they may wear any other “shirt” as long as it does not present a danger to any player and is different in color than the regular jersey.

Below is recommended play formation; actual formation may be changed based on registered participants

Inclement Weather

There are only two times games may be cancelled due to weather:  lightning or a closure of the park by the township.  If the township thinks the fields could be damaged because they are too wet, they will notify us and we will note that the fields are closed on the website.  If there is lightning, we will not play.  Homecoming Park is equipped with a lightning strike detector.  In the event the alarm goes off, all players, coaches, officials and spectators must seek shelter in their vehicles or under the shelter house until the "all clear" alarm sounds.  This will be 30 minutes after the last detected lightning strike.  In the even of a prolonged lightning delay (or anticipated delay), the games may be postponed or cancelled at the discretion of the board.  In such an event, we have the Sunday of the last week of the season reserved as a rain date.  If we can fit makeup games in sooner, we attempt to do do.
